Dr Shireen Patel is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Lincoln, working within the RESPOND theme of the Lincolnshire Unit for Mental Health Research (LUMHR). She has been actively involved in mental health and wellbeing research since 2011.

Prior to joining the University of Lincoln, Shireen was a Research Fellow at the University of Nottingham. Her research expertise centres on mental health, with a particular focus on reducing health inequalities by improving access to mental health and wellbeing services for marginalised and underserved communities. She is also committed to advancing co-produced research that meaningfully involves people with lived experience, communities, and stakeholders throughout the research process.

Shireen has a strong track record of successfully delivering large-scale NIHR-funded studies on time and to target. She has co-led the management of several NIHR-funded projects, investigating areas such as digital mental health interventions, staff wellbeing, and strategies to enhance the participation of underserved communities in health research.

I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Lincoln. My research focuses on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data-driven modelling, with experience developing autonomous robotic systems, computer vision, and navigation technologies for real-world applications.

Within LUMHR, I develop machine learning, spatial, and temporal modelling approaches to better understand mental health needs, and service use, helping to identify patterns that can inform more effective and equitable mental health care.

Before joining the University of Lincoln, I completed a PhD in Physics at Loughborough University, where my research focused on superconductivity through computational modelling. Alongside my research, I support student robotics and AI teaching and activities, including competing at and hosting international robotics and AI competitions.
